The Birth and Perseverance of Ci'en Buddhist Academy
Venerable Jixiang, a gentle and compassionate practitioner of Chinese Buddhism, founded the Ci'en Buddhist Academy in Kathmandu, Nepal, 20 years ago. His simple yet profound intention was to help children find inner peace and wisdom through the practice of transcribing Buddhist scriptures.
A Wooden Board, A Stroke of Mindfulness
At Ci'en Buddhist Academy, children transcribe scriptures onto traditional wooden boards. Sitting cross-legged, they carefully carve each character with focused determination. This humble practice not only cultivates patience but also nourishes their inner tranquility.
Warmth Beyond Religion and Ethnicity
Although Venerable Jixiang practices Chinese Buddhism, he warmly welcomes children of all religious backgrounds. Whether they are Buddhists, Hindus, or Muslims, every child is invited to participate. He often smiles and says, "Buddhist teachings are inclusive—I hope every child experiences this warmth and acceptance."
Transforming Lives: Inner Peace and Daily Challenges
Many children attending the academy come from disadvantaged backgrounds, often lacking basic educational resources. Yet each afternoon, as they gather quietly in the academy courtyard to transcribe scriptures, a profound calm and contentment can be seen on their faces.
One particular 10-year-old girl was initially anxious and restless. However, after several months of scripture transcription, her gaze became clear and confident. Venerable Jixiang vividly remembers her saying, “When transcribing the scriptures, I'm no longer afraid. My heart feels peaceful, and I feel I can overcome any challenge.”
Luck & Feng Shui Team's Support and Commitment
On the 20th anniversary of Ci'en Buddhist Academy, the founders of Luck & Feng Shui traveled to Kathmandu to celebrate with the children. They provided urgently needed teaching supplies and scripture-writing materials, and pledged ongoing support for the academy's transcription activities to help more children experience this beautiful form of spiritual growth.
One founder shared, “Witnessing these children's transformation—from anxiety to peace, from confusion to determination—deeply touched us. We want to contribute our efforts so more children can face life's challenges with the strength and support of Buddhist teachings, paving the way for a brighter future.”
